Economic Evaluation of Cultural Health and Wellbeing -project 2021-2024
Background
Arts and culture are one of the key factors affecting the perceived wellbeing of individuals and populations in the society. Research on the health and wellbeing effects of arts and culture has increased over the past couple of decades. This has also increased the political decision-makers interest of the possibilities of cultural wellbeing activities in health and wellbeing promotion. However, research evidence of the economic impact of cultural wellbeing activities has so far been limited, which has weakened the weight of cultural wellbeing activities in decision-making.
From the perspective of economic evaluation, the multidisciplinary and the cross-sectoral nature of cultural wellbeing activities also present their own challenges to the assessment. For example, identifying impact mechanisms and confounding factors that effect on the results of evaluation, as well as usability related to the conditions for implementation.
In order to measure and assess the multidisciplinary impact of cultural wellbeing activities, impact indicators are needed to support the economic assessment to measure changes at individual and population levels in perceived overall wellbeing and to relate these changes to investments in cultural wellbeing activities in order to assess cost-effectiveness.
Objectives

Develop methods and decision-analytic models necessary for the ex ante economic evaluation of cultural wellbeing activities

Based on the above, make policy recommendations how to develop the economic evaluation of cultural wellbeing activities in Finland
Kreativ person-centrerad vårdkonst -projekt 2022-2023
Kreativ personcentrerad vårdkonst är ett fortbildnings- och utvecklingsprojekt i Svenskfinland som genomförs i samarbete mellan Åbo Akademi (Enheten för hälsovetenskaper och Centret för livslångt lärande), Konstuniversitetet samt närvårdar- och sjukskötarutbildningar i Svenskfinland (Axxell, Prakticum, Yrkesakademin i Österbotten, Yrkeshögskolan Novia och Arcada).
Projektet avser utveckla, implementera och evaluera ett kreativt, personcentrerat arbetssätt och -verktyg med konst och kultur inom yrkesutbildningen och äldreomsorgen för att långsiktigt förändra vårdkulturen i Svenskfinland.
Projektet består av tre delprojekt med syften att
a) utbilda vårdlärare inom finlandssvenska yrkesutbildningar som ger närvårdar- och sjukskötarexamen att integrera kreativ personcentrerad vårdkonst i undervisningen riktad till äldrevården
b) implementera det nya arbetssättet och nya arbetsmetoder i äldrevården genom att utveckla närvårdar- och sjukskötarstuderandes färdigheter och kompetens för kreativ personcentrerad vårdkonst genom utveckling av kursplanerna för både de teoretiska och praktiska studierna inom äldrevården
c) evaluera effekten av verksamheten på olika plan: hos de utbildade vårdlärarna, närvårdar- och sjukskötarstuderande samt hos handledande personal inom äldrevårdspraktiker, där evalueringen omfattar en analys av faktorer i verksamhetsmiljön som möjliggör eller förhindrar etablering av kulturella och konstnärliga arbetssätt och processer.
Etämusiikkiterapian tutkimushanke (Telehealth music therapy) 2022-2023
Musiikkiterapian mahdollisuuksiin ja erityiskysymyksiin syventyvä raportti Etämusiikkiterapia: Kartoittava kirjallisuuskatsaus julkaistaan vuoden 2023 aikana. Musiikkiterapian asiakasryhmistä tarkastelun kohteena ovat erityisesti lapset, nuoret ja aikuiset, jotka voimassa olevan lainsäädännön mukaan olisivat oikeutettuja Kelan vaativaan lääkinnälliseen kuntoutukseen.
Telehealth music therapy -project explored telehealth music therapy and its effectiveness through a scoping literature review, and was funded by Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, a government agency that provides basic economic security for everyone living in Finland. The peer-reviewed report will be published in 2023 in the Social security and health reports series.
Benin rhythms 2022
Benin rhythms -project organized artistic residency and cultural-societal change in-between Finland, Estonia, and Beninoise artists. In Finland, the project was funded by The Nordic Culture Fund and The Finnish White Ribbon Union, and administrated by Emma Salokoski and Taru Koivisto. In Benin, Eugénè Togbe, Kouton Kouassi and Steve Abeni were responsible managers.
